We’re happy to announce a crash course in formal linguistics for all PhD students at the Utrecht Institute of Linguistics, as well as potential participants from other departments and universities. This course will give young researchers who do not have previous training in Formal Linguistics a chance to learn about some of the most basic formal linguistic methods. The course will run as a guided reading course of four topics, with four different experts at the UiL OTS:
- Rene Kager (Phonology)
- Roberta D’Alessandro (Syntax)
- Joost Zwarts (Semantics)
- Yoad Winter (Formal Grammar)
Each part will be independent of the other parts, and will have its own reading. A student is free to participate in any part of the course, as suits her best. Please see the schedule and the reading materials below. Registered students will be expected to read the required material (total expected reading time + exercises: about one-two weeks per part), and participate in the relevant meetings of the part they applied to.
To register to this course, please fill out the form at: https://forms.gle/bCgGAnephWALZpyf8
Early deadline for registration: *25 November 2019*.
In case of large demand, precedence may be given to PhD students at UiL OTS who register before the deadline.
