Ofer Tchernichovski (Hunter College, New York) will give the next MPI Colloquium on Tuesday February 18, 2020 at 15.45 pm.
Vocal culture in songbirds and humans
In the first part, I will present an analysis of rhythm structure in thrush nightingale songs and then compare it, using the same approach, to rhythms in live performances of music across cultures. In the second part, I will show how zebra finch sustain rich diversity of vocal culture across generations of learners. I will then show that bandwidth of information transfer is an interesting problem in distributed governance. Finally, I will present virtual world experiments, where we manipulate cultural transmission in human communication.
