Het is de Maand van de Filosofie. Een goed moment om ons te bezinnen op hetbelang van de alfa- of geesteswetenschappen. Want die raken steeds meer uit degratie, omdat het praktisch nut minder aan de oppervlakte ligt dan bij demeeste praktijkstudies. Maar juist in een tijd waarin computers ons steeds meerwerk uit handen nemen, zouden we veel waarde moeten hechten aan uniekmenselijke competenties, zoals taalgevoel en filosofisch denken.

De roep van de Japanse koolmees bezit een eigenschap die voorheen uniek werdverondersteld voor mensentaal. De mezen kunnen betekenisvolle klankreeksencombineren tot nieuwe klankreeksen met een eigen betekenis. Dit lijkt sterk opde manier waarop mensen woorden tot zinnen combineren. Workshop in Lexicography, Corpus Linguistics and Lexical Computing
Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna, Austria, July 11th-15th 2016

Lexicom is a five-day intensive workshop created by the Lexicography MasterClass. Seminars on theoretical issues alternate with hands-on work using a range of corpus-analysis and other software tools. Working in small groups or individually, you will learn how to develop dictionaries and other lexical resources, from the creation and annotation of corpora to the planning, design and writing of lexical entries. This is the workshop's sixteenth year and we now have over 400 graduates, from all parts of the world: reviews of previous events can be found here.

With the support of ISCA (the International Society for Conversation Analysis), the Language and Social Interaction group of the University of Groningen will organize the first

International Academy for Conversation Analysis (IACA16)
July 11 – 14, 2016, in Groningen, The Netherlands

IACA16 will take place in between two ICCA-conferences (2014 and 2018) and will focus on the research process rather than on research output. The academy is meant for CA researchers in all career stages, including PhD students. It will offer members of the CA community an environment to learn from each other about analytical choices, modes of analytical reasoning, and the different technologies that may support CA research.

The programme comprises four 4-day workshops on the following topics:
(i) ‘Interaction Organization’: Geoffrey Raymond on sequence organization
(ii) ‘Actions and Activities’: Paul Drew & Merran Toerien on action formation
(iii) ‘Practices’: Lorenza Mondada on embodiment

The Metaphor Lab Amsterdam is delighted to announce that the next Metaphor Festival will take place in Amsterdam from 31 August through 3 September 2016. The Metaphor Festival is an annual conference on the use of figurative language and other modes of figurative expression. It used to be arranged by the Department of English at Stockholm University. From 2006 through 2015, a series of ten successful conferences was held in Stockholm bringing together researchers from a broad range of academic disciplines, working within different theoretical and methodological paradigms in a creative, internationally oriented, and friendly atmosphere. The Stockholm organizers have now asked whether the Metaphor Lab Amsterdam can continue this tradition, and we are more than happy to do so.

The importance of figurative language and figurative semiotics is now generally recognized, and the Festival offers an opportunity to present and learn about research findings concerning figurative uses in different types of human communication, and their cognitive, cultural, narrative, poetic, rhetorical, social, textual or discourse functions. Contributions to the general session of the Festival can address the linguistic and/or literary character and use of tropes—metaphor, metonymy, simile, oxymoron, hyperbole, litotes, punning, and irony—or the character and use of rhyme schemes, various types of parallelism and other formal poetic constructions, as well as the nature of figurative signs and devices in multi-modal or non-verbal communication. Each talk is allotted 30 minutes, roughly 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.

The combination of metaphor and Amsterdam in a festival has prompted the Metaphor Lab Amsterdam to celebrate this configuration in one new way: after two days of academic work on 1 and 2 September, Saturday 3 September will be different. It will feature metaphor slams (deliberate metaphor production; resistance to metaphor battle; debating by metaphor contest), outreach activities to the non-academic community (metaphor in the real worlds of health care, marketing, organization and management, politics and so on), and metaphor-related artistic performances (poetry readings, stand-up comedy, music). All of this is well matched with the so-called Amsterdam Time Out Market, from Friday evening 2 September through Sunday evening 4 September, with previews of the complete Time Out season 2016-2017 in a festival covering the entire city attracting tens of thousands of people.

Abstract guidelines: Abstracts should be 400 words maximum (without references), and written in English (please provide glosses or translations for examples in other languages). The abstract should have a title, but the author’s name, academic affiliation, and email address should be indicated on a separate sheet, where it should also be specified whether the abstract is intended as a basis for a general session talk or a poster presentation.

All abstracts should submitted by Easychair from 1 March. Deadline for submission is 31 March. Information about acceptances will be emailed by 15 April to all scholars submitting an abstract.

The European School of Linguistic Typology 2016 is a two-week summer school organized by CNRS, the University of Cologne, and the University of Amsterdam. The School will be held on Porquerolles Island, off the French Mediterranean Coast from September 4 to 17, 2016. The School will offer high-level training in linguistic typology, its objectives, and methods to researchers, postdocs and students. We are pleased to announce the "Aix Summer School on Prosody 2016 " to be held from September 6-9, 2016 in Aix en Provence (France).

The Aix Summer School on Prosody 2016 will bring together experts on theoretical and practical aspects of the research on prosody. The school will be organized around morning lectures and afternoon tutorials (where participants will practice concepts and skills discussed in lectures) and data clinics (where participants can bring together their own data and questions for discussion).

The school is intended for post-graduate students and researchers interested in all the theoretical and practical aspects of the research on prosody and intonation. The school will be suitable both for researchers already working on intonation and prosody, and wishing to learn more about specific topics, and for researchers who wish to better understand how to incorporate and control prosody in their own work.

In recent years, we have observed an unparalleled increase in international contacts in different areas of activities all over the world. Increasing contacts impact on increasing interest in foreign languages learning. Teaching foreign language have the same features in many areas in all cases, regardless of the people all over the world choose both foreign languages from the same language group as their native language, but many of them also choose language from different language group. What are the features of working with students in such situation? Is teaching language from different language group student native language is more or less difficult than teaching language from the same language group? How to work with such students? What place in such teaching takes modern technologies?

The University of Wroclaw, Hanban and Confucius Institute at the University of Wroclaw

invite you to the International Scientific Conference “Teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

Working with speakers of the language belonging to different language groups ”. During the conference, we suggest the following topics:

 characteristics of teaching different groups of students;

 didactics and methodology of teaching foreign languages;

 distance learning in teaching of foreign languages;

 the hardest points in teaching foreign languages;

 modern programs of teaching foreign languages;

 modern technologies in teaching foreign languages;

 theory and practise of teaching foreign languages;

We do invite philological researchers, foreign language teachers and methodologists, linguists and e-learning specialists researchers, especially in sinology. We do invite senior researchers as well as doctoral students.

The conference will be hosted by the Confucius Institute at the University of Wroclaw, Poland, on September 7th – 9th, 2016. The language of the conference is English.

Proposals are now invited for individual papers or posters. Proposals must be attached as anonymous, and must not contain more than 300 words (in English). They should be submitted by 31st May 2016 to the conference e-mail: teaching.chinese@uwr.edu.pl

Proposals sent by doctoral students should be approved by their supervisors (not in the proposal text, which must remain anonymous, but with the supervisor’s address in the CC field).

The proposals will be accepted upon revision by the scientific committee by 15th June 2016.

The final programme of the conference will be released by 30th June 2016.

Papers will be grouped into various sessions dedicated to the different topic areas of discussion. A poster session is also planned, unless there are fewer than 10 poster proposals sent and/or accepted.

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic with a population of almost 400.000 and is the country's judiciary and trade-fair center. Arie Verhagen als hoogleraar Nederlandse Taalkunde aan de Universiteit Leiden

Deze zomer bereikt Arie Verhagen de pensioengerechtigde leeftijd. Voor Arie betekent dat geen definitief afscheid van de Universiteit Leiden en daarom zal hij nog geen afscheidscollege geven. Wel komt er een einde aan zijn hoogleraarschap Nederlandse Taalkunde – een leerstoel die hij vanaf 1998 bekleedde. Om dit bijzondere moment niet onopgemerkt voorbij te laten gaan, organiseren wij op vrijdag 30 september een symposium over een onderwerp dat Arie nauw aan het hart ligt: stilistiek in de Neerlandistiek.

Het centrale thema van het symposium ‘Neerlandistiek met stijl’ is de gedachte van Arie dat de studie van stijl de verbindende schakel kan vormen tussen de subdisciplines binnen de neerlandistiek. TIME 2016 aims to bring together researchers interested in reasoning about temporal aspects of information in any area of Computer Science. The second workshop on Psycholinguistic Approaches to Speech Recognition in Adverse Conditions (PASRAC) will be held in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
The workshop is a follow-up on the first workshop organised in Bristol in March 2010.

The aim of the two-day workshop is to bring together scientists from different disciplines, including psychology, linguistics, computer science, neuroscience, and cognitive science, working on the topic of speech recognition in adverse conditions.

Basic themes will be, but are not limited to:
- Sensory degradation
* Extrinsic: Noise and other distortions, such as atypical speech, accented speech, conversational speech
* Intrinsic: Hearing impairments and cochlear implants
- Incomplete knowledge (L1-L2, adults-children)

THE TOPIC:

On which dimensions of meaning do abstract and concreteconcepts differ?

How does perceptual experience affect abstract conceptprocessing and representation?

What is the role of language in shaping and indexing thecontent of concrete vs abstract concepts?

Abstract concepts are a controversial and widely debatedtopic, within the theoretical discussion about the embodied vs symbolic natureof language and meaning.

The aim of this project is to bring together current viewsabout the structure, processing, and modeling of abstract concepts.

In cognitive psychology and neuroscience it has been arguedthat abstract concepts can be grounded in bodily experiences (see review byPecher et al., 2011), that neural substrates dedicated to processingsensorimotor information are activate also when we process them (Pulvermülleret al., 2012), and that emotions play a critical role in their processing(Vigliocco et al., 2014). Some scholars suggest a reconciliatory view, claimingthat conceptual processing works on different levels - symbolic and embodied(Barsalou et al., 2008; Zwaan, 2014), that conceptual representations aremultimodal in nature (Semin et al., 2013), that they can involve the activationof two functionally independent but interconnected representational systems(Paivio 1971;2007; see McRae, Jones 2013 for a review), and that there areredundancies between the semantic information encoded by language andperceptual information (Louwerse, 2011). Such redundancies allow, for example,congenitally blind patients to perform similarly to sighted participants inproperty generations tasks (Lenci et al., 2013), and can be exploited to modelcomputationally semantic representations starting from corpora of text in adistributional fashion, or exploiting the lexical information encoded inWordNet (Vossen, 2014-2019 ULM-2).

THE ORGANIZATION:

8 eminent scholars have been invited to Amsterdam todiscuss the nature, structure, processing, and modeling of abstract concepts invarious disciplines.

During the symposium the panelists will present in turntheir view and will receive structured comments (prepared in advance) fromtheir peers. A general discussion among all panelists and the audience willfollow.

THE HOST:

At the Metaphor Lab Amsterdam, we conduct interdisciplinaryresearch that tackle the structure and functioning of metaphor in thought,language, and communication.

The nature of abstract concepts is particularly relevantfor metaphor researchers, because it has been argued for decades that metaphorsare matters of thought, that allow us to understand abstract concepts bycomparing them to concrete ones.

After four previous successful events since 2012, the Metaphor Lab Amsterdam is delighted to announce a new edition of our summer/winter schools, this time in the fourth week of January 2017—the school is piggybacked on to the LOT Dutch Research School in Linguistics Winter School in the preceding two weeks. Metaphor Lab Schools are meant for PhD students and young post doc researchers who are engaged in metaphor research in language, cognition, communication, and discourse. Our goal is to offer advanced training in metaphor identification and analysis according to internationally recognized standards. 30-40 participants per school come from all over the world and receive an intense academic experience.

The format of this school will differ from previous editions. We will hold four special interest groups, each under the guidance of one specialized tutor, who will do work together including reading, discussion and research in a specific theme. Each group will work on its own and do a final presentation on the Friday. Apart from this, we are looking into the possibility of organizing a number of general plenary lectures during the week, and we will often go out together in the Amsterdam evenings.

The themes and tutors are the following:

  1. MIPVU – Tina Krennmayr/Susan Nacey: focus on linguistic metaphor identification in discourse
  2. VisMet corpus – Marianna Bolognesi: focus on visual metaphor identification, analysis, and crowd sourced tags
  3. The five step method – Gerard Steen: focus on linguistic, conceptual and communicative metaphor identification in uttterances
  4. Metaphor and argumentation – Jean Wagemans: focus on metaphors as implicit arguments and argumentation via metaphor

Each group will allow for a maximum of 10 students. Detailed goals, contents, methods, and end products will be announced later.

There will be a modest registration fee (200 euros per participant), and travel, accommodation, and food will be at your own expense. We are looking into possibilities for financial aid for applicants with limited resources, upon request.

Project

Binnen de onderzoeksgroep Vertaling en Technologie van de KU Leuven Campus KULAK Kortrijk is een project van start gegaan dat de effectiviteit wil nagaan van elektronische leeromgeving waarin vertalingen van vertaalstudenten (semi-)automatisch geanalyseerd worden. Het project heeft als doel na te gaan in welke mate technologieën uit het gerelateerde domein van Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) kunnen worden aangepast in functie van de specifieke noden binnen Computer-Assisted Translation Training (CATT). Concreet streeft dit onderzoeksproject het ontwerp, de ontwikkeling en de evaluatie na van een adaptief vertaalleersysteem dat (toekomstige) vertalers moet toelaten de kwaliteit van hun vertalingen te evalueren en te verbeteren op basis van een leeromgeving die vertrekt van een (semi-)automatische analyse van hun vertaaltaken.
Onder begeleiding van een resident ZAP-lid zal je je inwerken in bovenstaand onderzoeksdomein, en verricht je onderzoek dat deel uitmaakt van je eigen doctoraatstraject. Volgende aspecten zullen tot je takenpakket behoren: literatuurstudie, dataverzameling, classificeren van vertaalproblemen, resultaten presenteren op (inter)nationale conferenties. Je werkt hiervoor samen met collega’s van de 4 campussen van KU Leuven.

The NWO Gravitation consortium ’Language in Interaction’ invites applications for a postdoc position:

’Developing a language test battery for young adults’.

In this position you will have the opportunity to conduct world-class research as a member of an interdisciplinary team. You will lead a project that will be part of a large-scale research programme aiming to characterize individual variation in language skills at behavioural, neurobiological and genetic levels. A crucial component of this ambitious venture is to develop a test battery for language skills that comprehensively, reliably, and efficiently assesses the core skills underlying speaking and listening. The battery should be suitable for assessing young adults (18 to 30 years) with a broad spectrum of abilities. You will play a central role in the development of this test battery.

In order to carry out these varied and complex tasks effectively, a strong background in experimental psychology, psycholinguistics, cognitive neuroscience, or psychological diagnostics is required. In addition, you should have ample experience in planning (large-scale) studies and an excellent knowledge of statistics. You should be able to work independently and to tight deadlines and to communicate effectively with other members of the team. Given that the key task is to develop a test instrument for Dutch, native or near-native knowledge of Dutch is desirable.

The Language in Interaction consortium, sponsored by a Gravitation grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific research (NWO), brings togetherexcellent research groups in the Netherlands in a research programme on the foundations of language. The team consists of researchers from eight research institutions with complementary expertise in a highly interdisciplinary area of research. Call for Proposals voor een Researcher-in-residence.

Het programma, waarbij een onderzoeker voor 0,5 fte bij ons wordt gedetacheerd voor een kort onderzoeksproject van 6 maanden, is bedoeld voor early career onderzoekers (promovendus of maximaal 5 jaar gepromoveerd) met een interesse in onze gedigitaliseerde collectie. Dit zijn bijvoorbeeld historische kranten, de Handelingen der Staten-Generaal tot 1995 of middeleeuwse handschriften.

We stellen geen eisen omtrent het onderwerp, dus staan open voor iedereen met een interessant onderzoeksvoorstel, zoals (kunst)historici, informatici of sociologen, maar vragen wel dat er digitale onderzoeksmethoden worden gebruikt. Er is hiervoor (technische) ondersteuning beschikbaar.

“Linguistic inequality within VMBO classes in a Dutch peripheral area (province of Limburg)”


Job description
The proposed project will examine how linguistic inequality, normativity and voice in Limburg is reproduced within VMBO classes. Since it is believed that pupils speaking dialects or other languages as Moroccan Arabic, Berber and Turkish fail to meet the standard Dutch norm, these pupils are imagined as ‘uneducated’, ‘not intelligent’ or ‘marginal’. This project is important for an area as Limburg where popular beliefs at the national level obviously affect the educational field. The focus will be on VMBO classes that have a far from positive image and where considerable linguistic diversity exists as a direct result of globalization-induced migration and the persistence of the local dialects. The project will investigate pupils’ spoken and informal written language with the aim to examine how globalization affects classroom realities. The aim of the project is to provide a more informed and nuanced view on the language proficiency of VMBO monolingual, bi dialectal and bilingual pupils in Limburg.


Requirements
A sociolinguist, linguistic/cultural anthropologist or linguist with an MSc degree and with affinity for conducting classroom ethnographies.

The aim of this PhD project isto examine good and bad practices in intercultural communication at the multilingualworkplace in cross-border mobility between Limburg and North-Rhine Westphalia.In this type of mobility, individuals and groups can choose in theirinteractions at the workplace between (i) the national language of the otherwhich is German or Dutch, (ii) code-mixing between Dutch and German (iii)English as a lingua franca, (iv) dialect that is spoken throughout thisEuregion and (v) a lingua receptive which is a mode of multilingualcommunication in which speakers employ a language (variety) different fromtheir partner(s) but still are able to understand each other.

The proposed PhDproject will observe daily linguistic practices at work places, using classicsociolinguistic and ethnographic methods with audio- and self-recordings andqualitative semi-structured interviews. In addition, the project will explore howthe findings can be incorporated in a large-scale quantitative survey conductedby Statistics Netherlands (SN) to assess the impact of (un)successful languageinteractions on social participation and trust.

PhD position in Linguistics/Philosophy (1.0fte), University of Groningen , deadline: 20 September 2016

The Faculties of Philosophy and Arts of the University of Groningen are looking for a PhD student in the NWO-funded research project "The Language of Fiction and Imagination" led by Dr. Emar Maier.

Fiction is interpreted differently from non-fiction. In the context of a fiction, the usual expectations of truth and reference are out the window. We all know that Frodo never existed, yet we can interpret stories about him and even be emotionally involved with this non-existent character. Since traditional formal semantics has fundamental difficulties with things like non-referring names and inconsistent plots, literary scholars have turned to cognitive linguistics. The current project will build a bridge between cognitive and formal semantics, exploiting existing semantic frameworks (e.g. Discourse Representation Theory, Mental Spaces), and philosophy (e.g. Mental Files, pretense theories of fiction), in order to arrive at a formally explicit account of the interpretation of fiction.

The project has three parts: (A) formally modelling mental states, including imagination and belief (PhD1); (B) modelling fiction as imagination updates (PI); and (C) analyzing linguistic fiction markers (PhD2). The position advertised is for subproject C. It is centered on the linguistic questions raised by the project as a whole: How does a reader even know that a given text is fiction? Are there linguistic clues an author can leave to mark a text as fiction? Putative examples of such "fiction markers" include narrative subject--verb inversion (in Dutch: "Komt een skelet bij de dokter..."), past tense marking in children's pretend play ("You were the father and I was the baby"), the historical present, and free indirect discourse. The goal is to give a formal semantic analysis of these and other constructions, building on the semantic machinery for fiction interpretation developed in the other subprojects, and engaging with existing work in both formal/cognitive linguistics and literary studies/narratology.

Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has
- a strong background in formal semantics (through training in theoretical linguistics, logic, and/or philosophy of language), and a clear interest in literature/narratology;
- excellent English and academic writing/presentation skills;
- an MA or MSc degree in a field relevant to the project (e.g. linguistics, philosophy, literary studies, A.I.);

The PhD position is jointly hosted by two departments, The Department of Theoretical Philosophy in the Faculty of Philosophy, and the Center for Language and Communication in the Faculty of Arts. The successful applicant will be working under direct supervision of dr. Emar Maier with co-supervision of promotores prof. dr. Petra Hendriks and prof. dr. Jan-Willem Romeijn.

Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary of €2,174,- (salary scale PhD students Dutch Universities) gross per month in the first year, up to a maximum of € 2,779,- gross per month in the final year, based on a fulltime position. The position requires residence in Groningen.

EXTENDED DEADLINE for Abstract Submission: July 8th, 2016

The second workshop on Psycholinguistic Approaches to Speech Recognition in Adverse Conditions (PASRAC) will be held in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

The workshop is a follow-up on the first workshop organised in Bristol in March 2010.

The aim of the two-day workshop is to bring together scientists from different disciplines, including psychology, linguistics, computer science, neuroscience, and cognitive science, working on the topic of speech recognition in adverse conditions.

Basic themes will be, but are not limited to:

- Sensory degradation

- Incomplete knowledge (L1-L2, adults-children)

- Limited processing resources (dual tasking, divided attention, etc).

We are inviting abstracts (maximum length is 500 words) for oral or poster presentations.

PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME:

Each day will start at 9 am and will end at 6 pm. Each day will start with a keynote speaker, followed by three thematic sessions and one poster session.

Each thematic session will contain a talk by one or two invited speakers followed by talks on the basis of accepted abstracts.

REGISTRATION FEE:

The registration fee for students is EUR 50 and for non-students EUR 100 for both days.

SOCIAL EVENTS:

There will be ample time for social interaction during two coffee breaks and a lunch break each day. Moreover, on Monday drinks will be served at the Thieme Loods, followed by a conference dinner at the beautiful and historic Restaurant and Brewery de Hemel (the Heaven).

All social events are included in the conference fee.

th TBLT Conference "Tasks in Context" that will take place at the University of Barcelona from April 19-21, 2017.

Submissions are invited for individual papers, show and tell, workshops and colloquia.

Types of submissions and guidelines

Individual papersshow and tell (10 minutes + 5 minutes Q&A)

A submission should include:

Workshops and colloquia (2-hour session)

Convenors should provide:

§an abstract providing an overview of the entire workshop or colloquium (350 words maximum, excluding references), and abstracts of the individual papers in the colloquium (also 350 words maximum excluding references).

Presentation policy

Each participant may submit one abstract in authorship and a second one in co-authorship. A workshop/colloquium convenor can also present at the workshop/colloquium or in any other presentation modality.

Language policy

The working language of the conference is English, but contributions in other European languages will also be considered. PowerPoints and other visual materials should be in English.

The International Conference on Current Issues of Languages, Dialects and Linguisticsis organized by Pazoheshgaran Andishmand Institute (Ahwaz, Iran) in association with different universities such as Shahid Chemran University of Ahvaz and Imam Khomeini International University.

The conference will be dedicated to current issues of different languages and dialects such as Persian, Arabic, Kurdish and Turkish.

Academics and university lecturers are cordially invited to present their research regarding current issues of different languages, dialects and linguistics in either English or Persian. Such an approach suggests that a linguistic study is no longer limited within a certain field;knowledge from different fields cultivates diversity in linguistic study.Recognizing this trend, the conference organizing committee aims to provide a platform for researchers and scholars from various fields to exchange ideas.

De Algemene Vereniging voor Taalwetenschap (AVT) en de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Toegepaste Taalwetenschap (ANéLA) reiken jaarlijks een prijs uit voor een dissertatie op het gebied van de taalwetenschap. Ook dit jaar zal er weer een AVT/ANéLA-dissertatieprijs worden uitgereikt. Voor de AVT/AnéLA dissertatieprijs 2016 komen in aanmerking alle dissertaties verdedigd tussen 16 juli 2015 en 15 juli 2016.

Wij nodigen u uit om (gemotiveerde) voordrachten te doen voor kandidaten voor de prijs. De voordrachten dienen uiterlijk 1 september 2016 te worden ingediend. Dit kan online:

Nascholingscursus Kind, Taal & Gehoor 2016, Language and Hearing Center Amsterdam (LHCA)

De cursus Kind, Taal & Gehoor actualiseert en vergroot uw kennis op het gebied van de taalontwikkeling bij kinderen met gehoorproblemen. In deze reeks lezingen gaan ervaren audiologen, KNO artsen, (klinisch) linguïsten, logopedisten en onderzoekers in op actuele en relevante thema’s rondom diagnostiek en behandeling van taal- en gehoorproblemen bij jonge
kinderen. Dit jaar wordt specifiek ingegaan op genetica, diagnostiek en behandeling van problemen met taal en gehoor. De cursus Kind, Taal en Gehoor wordt jaarlijks
georganiseerd door het Language and Hearing Center Amsterdam (LHCA), een interdisciplinaire universitaire werkgroep binnen VU en VUmc.

DOELGROEP
De cursus is relevant voor professionals die werkzaam zijn in het veld van de audiologie en/of logopedie. Dit kunnen audiologen en logopedisten zijn, maar ook (klinisch)
linguïsten, spraak- en taalpathologen, psychologen of pedagogen. Voor deelname aan de cursus wordt basiskennis in de audiologie vereist.

KOSTEN EN ACCREDITATIEPUNTEN
Accreditatie is aangevraagd bij de NVLF en NVKF. Kosten bedragen voor de gehele cursus €160 (€130 voor NVLF/NVKF leden); voor twee van de drie middagen €110 (€90 voor NVLF/NVKF leden); voor een enkele middag €60 (€50 voor NVLF/NVKF leden).

The six-­week course from the UCL Institute of Education, the world’s leading centre for education and related social science, and the University of London, will benefit EFL/ESL teachers who would like to understand more about the processes of reading and explore how they teach reading to their learners.

Dr. Amos Paran and Dr. Andrea Révész, who lead the course, teach on the MA TESOL and MA Applied Linguistics at UCL. Are you fascinated by the uniquely human capacity of language and by how our brains support our ability to communicate with each other? Do you want to learn how to do cutting-edge research in this domain? If so, this Master’s programme is for you.

The Master-of-Science programme in Cognitive Neuroscience (MSc CNS) is an interdisciplinary two-year (120 EC) research-master’s programme. It is part of the Donders Graduate School for Cognitive Neuroscience of Radboud University, Nijmegen. Lecturers in the Language and Communication specialisation of the programme are world-leading researchers in different disciplines of language science. They have positions at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, or the Centre for Language Studies.

The first year (60 EC) of the MSc CNS programme aims to lay the theoretical groundwork, and is mainly devoted to general courses in cognitive neuroscience as well as specialisation courses and skill training. All courses are in English. The second year (60 EC) is largely dedicated to conducting a research project (45 EC) to gain hands-on research experience in one of the participating research institutes and research groups.

Reisbeurs voor workshop over machine learning op basis van beperkt beschikbare taalbronnen (MaLLoRE)

De Nederlandse Taalunie (NTU) en het Ministerie van Taal en Cultuur van Zuid-Afrika (DAC) ondersteunen activiteiten en evenementen die bijdragen aan de verbetering en verbreding van de relatie tussen het taal- en spraaktechnologieveld in Zuid-Afrika, Nederland en Vlaanderen. Voor deelname aan de MaLLoRE-workshop hebben de NTU en DAC reisbeurzen beschikbaar gesteld voor masterstudenten en promovendi wiens onderzoek van belang is voor kennis over taal- en spraaktechnologie voor het Nederlands en een van de officiële talen van Zuid-Afrika. De MaLLoRE-workshop vindt plaats op LREC 2016 in Slovenië.
