Prize Winners of ‘De Grote Taaldag’ 2018

On 2 February 2019 the winners of the 2018 AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize and the LOT-Popularisation prize were announced during the Taalgala.

2018 AVT/ Anéla Dissertation Prize

Tessel Boerma was awarded the 2018 AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize for her dissertation “Profiles and paths. Effects of language impairment and bilingualism on children’s linguistic and cognitive development”.

The shortlisted candidates were:

  • Evelyn Bosma “Bilingualism and cognition: the acquisition of Frisian and Dutch”.
  • Anja Goldschmidt “Hitting playfully but hard: Conceptual effects of verb-adverb modification in the domain of force”

2018 LOT-Popularisation prize

Kristel Doreleijers, Mathilde Jansen and Nicoline van der Sijs were awarded the 2018 LOT-Popularisation prize for their project “Projectplan Website voor scholieren: Taalkundig onderzoek, wat is dat en hoe doe je dat?”

The shortlisted projects were:

  • De Woordenfabriek. Actief aan de slag met taalwetenschap voor leerlingen in de onderbouw van het voortgezet onderwijs – Henriëtte Raudszus, Evelien Mulder en Joep van der Graaf
  • Prentenboeken zonder tekst: een activiteit om voorlezen in (meertalige) gezinnen te stimuleren – Annegien Langeloo (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) & Claire Goriot (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)
  • Taal in het theater – Sybren Spit & Linda Drijvers

De Grote Taaldag is organised by LOT in cooperation with the Linguistics Association of the Netherlands (AVT) and the Dutch Association for Applied Linguistics (Anéla). This day combines the AVT TIN-dag (Linguistics-in-the-Netherlands day), and the Anéla TTiN-dag (Applied-Linguistics-in-the-Netherlands day), with the Taalgala (Language-Gala). During the Taalgala the AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize and the LOT-Popularisation prize are awarded.
