Reminder Call for Papers | De Grote Taaldag 2020

November 29, 2019/in News /by Janacy
De Grote Taaldag

All AVT and Anéla members are invited to submit an abstract for the Grote Taaldag 2020. Abstracts should be submitted before 6 December 2019.

The next Dutch Annual Linguistics Day (or Grote Taaldag), co-organised by AVT, LOT and Anéla, will be held on Friday January 31, 2020. The Dutch Annual Linguistics Daycombines the AVT TIN-dag (Linguistics-in-the-Netherlands day), the Anéla TTiN-dag (Applied-Linguistics-in-the-Netherlands day) and the ‘Taalgala’, where the LOT outreach prize and the AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize are awarded. The date breaks with tradition (Friday instead of Saturday), a change whose impact will be closely monitored. The location is still the same: Drift 21 in Utrecht.

Abstract Submission

Abstracts should not exceed 170 words, and must be submitted through the AVT website. Members can submit no more than 2 abstracts (1 as first author, 1 as co-author). Talks last 20 minutes, plus 5 minutes for questions.

In case you do not receive an automatic confirmation of your submission, please contact Bert Le Bruyn (b.s.w.lebruyn@uu.nl). The available slots in the programme will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.

Keynote Lecture

We are proud to announce that the DALD2020 keynote lecture will be given by Pia Quist from the University of Copenhagen.

Programme

The programme will appear in January on the AVT website and will be sent to AVT and Anéla members by e-mail.

Registration

The registration fee is €25 for senior AVT/Anéla members,  €20 for junior AVT/Anéla members (PhD students, (Re)MA students and unaffiliated linguists) and €50 for non-members. The fee includes lunch, coffee and tea, and drinks afterwards. You are kindly requested to register and pay the conference fee by bank transfer between November 6 and January 10. For registration, please go to the AVT website; payment details are provided on the registration form.

Publications

AVT members are invited to submit a written version of their talk to Linguistics in the Netherlands (LIN). Anéla members can submit a written version of their talk for publication in The Dutch Journal of Applied Linguistics (DuJAL). Both LIN and DuJAL are published by Benjamins. LIN articles become open access two years after publication. DuJAL articles are open access as of publication.

We hope to see you in Utrecht on January 31!

Scientific mission of LOT

The aim of LOT is to create a scientific community in which this research can be optimally pursued, and to educate the next generation of researchers with an open mind toward new disciplinary and interdisciplinary developments, theoretical and methodological alternatives, and possible applications.

LOT stimulates new initiatives and developments in research, and provides a national forum to further communication between the participating institutes with a view to short- and long-term collaboration.

LOT School Series

LOT was officially established in June 1994 by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. The LOT school series soon acquired an international reputation as a result of inviting well-known linguists to teach at the schools.

The research by the LOT institutes covers all major areas of linguistics, and exploits a wide range of methodological tools and theoretical frameworks.
