Prize Winners of ‘De Grote Taaldag’
On 31 January 2020 the winners of the 2019 AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize and the LOT-Popularisation prize were announced during the Taalgala.
2019 AVT/ Anéla Dissertation Prize
Luis Miguel Rojas Berscia (RU) is the winner of the 2019 AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize for his dissertation From Kawapanan to Shawi. Topics in language variation and change .
The shortlisted candidates were:
Amber Boeynaems (VU), Figurative Framing in Political Discourse.
Caitlin Meyer (UvA), Rule and Order. Acquiring ordinals in Dutch and English.

2019 LOT Popularisation prize
Liesbeth Koenen and the Leuven Linguistics Department (KU Leuven) are the winners of the 2019 LOT Popularisation prize.
The jury of the LOT Populariseringsprijs 2019, consisting of Mathilde Jansen (chair, Meertens/NEMO Kennislink), Folkert Kuiken (UvA), and Mark de Vries (RUG), judged an impressive number of submissions and ultimately decided to award the prize to two projects: Liesbeth Koenen’s book Wat je zegt, gaat vanzelf and the educational project Scholar@School of the Leuven Linguistics Department. The Etymology Calendar prepared by Linguistics’ students Laura Dees, Pascale Eskes, Lotte Meester, Gerard Spaans, and Vera Zwennes from Leiden University was awarded an encouragement prize.
In the coming months the LOT Newsletter and LOT website will pay special attention to the nominated projects as well as to the other projects that were proposed for the prize.

Grote Taaldag 2020
De Grote Taaldag is organised by LOT in cooperation with the Linguistics Association of the Netherlands (AVT) and the Dutch Association for Applied Linguistics (Anéla). This day combines the AVT TIN-dag (Linguistics-in-the-Netherlands day), and the Anéla TTiN-dag (Applied-Linguistics-in-the-Netherlands day), with the Taalgala (Language-Gala). During the Taalgala the AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize and the LOT Popularisation prize are awarded.
