VIOT 2026 Conference: The Changing Landscape of Language and Communication Research

September 01, 2025

Call for Papers (extended deadline)

English version below

——-

The seventeenth conference of VIOT (the Dutch-Flemish network of researchers in language and communication studies) will take place from 28 to 30 January 2026 at the University of Antwerp. VIOT2026 invites researchers in language and communication, applied linguistics, and communication science to submit abstracts for this three-day conference of scholarly exchange and discussion.

As language evolves with the rapid digital and societal changes of our time, it increasingly affects diverse contexts as chatbots, classrooms, meetings, government communication, presentations, and health apps. The central theme of the conference, The Changing Landscape of Language and Communication Research: New Opportunities and Challenges, runs through a varied program of lectures, panels, paper sessions, and poster presentations. Confirmed keynote speakers include Hans Hoeken (Utrecht University), Dorien Van De Mieroop (KU Leuven), and Walter Daelemans (University of Antwerp).

Both individual paper proposals and panel submissions are welcome. The conference language is Dutch, but presentations in English by international speakers are also possible. The deadline for abstract submission is 5 September 2025. Authors will be notified of acceptance by 20 September 2025.

More information about the conference and the submission process can be found on the conference website.

Scientific mission of LOT

The aim of LOT is to create a scientific community in which this research can be optimally pursued, and to educate the next generation of researchers with an open mind toward new disciplinary and interdisciplinary developments, theoretical and methodological alternatives, and possible applications.

LOT stimulates new initiatives and developments in research, and provides a national forum to further communication between the participating institutes with a view to short- and long-term collaboration.

LOT School Series

LOT was officially established in June 1994 by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. The LOT school series soon acquired an international reputation as a result of inviting well-known linguists to teach at the schools.

The research by the LOT institutes covers all major areas of linguistics, and exploits a wide range of methodological tools and theoretical frameworks.
